An old barn gets a new chapter at Anaway Place

After months of planning, dreaming, and anticipation, construction has officially begun on the Candlewood Events Barn—the final major phase of development at Anaway Place.

This week marks a milestone moment as the crew from Old Wood New Use began raising the timber frame of a historic 110-year-old Wisconsin barn carefully relocated from Port Washington. Rather than building something entirely new, we chose to preserve a piece of Wisconsin's agricultural heritage, giving new life to a structure that has already spent more than a century bringing people together.

When complete, the Candlewood Events Barn will become a gathering place for connection, celebration, learning, and community in the heart of Wisconsin's Driftless Region. Its name is a tribute to the property's past, recalling the days when Anaway Place was known as Candlewood Cabins—a nod to the vision and legacy that helped shape what this special place has become today.

Designed to hold about 50 people the building is meant to wellness retreats, family reunions, corporate retreats, workshops, intimate weddings and special events. The Barn will provide a warm and welcoming space where guests can gather while surrounded by the rolling hills, forests, and meadows that make Anaway Place so special.

But our vision extends beyond private events.

The Candlewood Events Barn will also serve as a community hub where guests and locals can come together to experience the incredible talent, creativity, and craftsmanship found throughout the Driftless Region. We are already developing programming that will include farm-to-table dinners featuring local chefs and producers, whiskey and wine tastings, yoga classes, wellness workshops, artisan demonstrations, educational experiences, seasonal celebrations, and gatherings that encourage meaningful conversation and connection.

In a world that often feels rushed and disconnected, we believe there is tremendous value in creating spaces where people can slow down, share stories, learn from one another, and build community.

The Barn represents the culmination of our vision for Anaway Place—a destination where nature, hospitality, wellness, and human connection come together. While our cabins offer private spaces for rest and restoration, the Candlewood Events Barn will create opportunities for gathering, celebrating, and building relationships that extend far beyond a weekend getaway.

As the timber frame rises over the coming months, we'll continue sharing updates on the progress of this exciting project. We look forward to welcoming guests, hosting memorable events, supporting local businesses and artisans, and creating experiences that bring people together for years to come.
